Sorry, but I have to throw in a quick comment here. Gundam 00 is the only Gundam based in the AD/CE timeline that us real human beings live in. It's also set mainly on the planet and within orbit of the Earth.

Chrome Shelled Regios is a post-apocalyptic sort of ordeal.
Ghost in the Shell is a pretty obvious plug, but just in case you haven't seen it you should.
Heatguy J is near-future, and has some fun stuff in it. Plus it's about an android!

That's all I can think of for now. I tried to stick to anime that clearly had technological advancements compared to our current time. Nothing borderline and nothing that had those advancements but focused on the human element, thus making the technology an unfocused aspect.
