I love Gurren Lagann but it is what I would call overrated. I mean there are lot of series from 2007 that I think are just as good or better than GL (Terra e, Denno Coil, Mononoke) and I would be happy if those series got half the attention Gurren Lagann gets.
Although just because something is popular doesn't mean it doesn't deserve its praise.
