I suppose, there's some good humour to be had in some of his quips, and so he's a little more entertaining then some of the other harem anime.
Kind of moot since I think you're already decided on it, but I never really liked Kanon. I prefer romance anime where you can relate to both characters (or more if they are present) and they are both fully developed, with realistic thoughts, goals, reactions, etc. Kanon felt like a guy talking down to small children, and I just didn't find that compelling, I guess. Even in a series like Nodame Cantabile, I never got that kind of impression even though the female lead there also sometimes acts childish. Maybe I have to watch past the second half of Kanon for it to kick in.
