He got ambushed while he was away? Unless it was MK's doing, I sort of doubt it, it just seems too, random.
As for work, remember what he told Akuha in chapter 30, how the Shuzen family acts as "problem solvers" in the criminal underworld. Obviously he was needed elsewhere that day. Tragic, it really is. Hopefully we'll find out the whole truth, and soon.
