This is the first time I've agreed with you wholeheartedly on something.
Kubo was like "I need to kill a good guy to please the fans" then he did but the fans complained that he wasn't really that important so what does he do? Suddenly retcon him and make him Captain-level to both make the bad guys look stronger AND make him less useless and minor than he really was.
