Good question.
If you comb through the first three pages of
this, you can find the DVD sales for Air, Kanon, and Clannad.
Air averaged over 20,000 DVD sales per volume.
Kanon (2006) averaged just shy of 20,000 DVD sales per volume.
Clannad made well over 20,000 DVD sales per volume.
So 20,000 DVD sales per volume seems a pretty safe bet for a KyoAni/Key team-up.
