Canada is a very large country with many different regional accents. People in Quebec sound French, westerners sound very much like Americans, people from the East Coat and especially Newfoundlanders sound different again, almost Scots/Irish.
I've actually visited Canada on 3 separate occasions and I have only ever heard Canadians from the Maritimes sound as if they're saying 'aboot'.
