Whenever Kajiura makes heavy use of tubular bells and chorals, things are serious. And don't miss the change in the music at the END of the fight, when Homura was hit and immobilized. How the music then underlines Homura's change of feelings from frustration to fearful realization of her defeat, to her sinking feeling that this time she knows she can't endlessly continue to increase Madoka's burden with more iterations, and ultimately her giving up leading to her soul gem darkening in despair... this was masterful.
2 full OSTs for a 12-episode show. This fact alone should say enough.
