Well, isn't it? Or rather, aren't they? "Light novel" and "visual novel" are different... light novels are actual, physical books. Go to amazon.co.jp (or a physical Japanese bookshop if your area has one) and see for yourself. I imagine light novels are ideal material for anime fans wishing to practise/learn Japanese since they're not too deep or philosophical and tend to have lots of furigana.
