Let's be honest, every battle this manga has seen has either turned comical/fanservice or there was never any threat at all. We've never seen (as you said) the girls react to Rito actually in a dangerous condition or getting hurt. I think that would do wonders for the manga, showing the side of the girls we've never seen.
Who knows, maybe Lala could snap, go berserk...or the opposite break down. Yami could show pure emotions (we've seen little of her showing pure and strong emotions really...). Momo and Nana, how would they react? What about Mikan? Would she go all Onii-chan! and make us all DDDD'AAAAAWWWWW!?
I'd love to see this...
(not because I want Rito to really get hurt, there's a ton of other MCs I'd like hurt before him...I just want to see that side of them)
