know I shouldn't be talking about manga comparisons in this anime thread, but on the same note, instead of being nearly kidnapped at the gate, Mikan was getting tricked to go to some cram school (fake of course) in order to get into Gakuen Alice in the manga version. Yes, she'd be losing money in both instances, but getting scammed just sounds better than getting kidnapped; I wonder why they changed it into something a lot darker?
