Good starting episode. We get a quick intro to the individuals that will make up the team early on. Not only that, it doesn't waste any time in getting the setup of reviving the kyudo/traditional Japanese archery club. Of course, the main character is not negelcted and we even get a number of hints as to why he is in the funk that he is in now. We also get a quick setup of how his family is like - busy father who occasionally needs to go travel, and a late mother (who probably died in an accident that the main character was also involved in).
The piece de resistence of the episode though is the ending scene where he spots an archer practicing. KyoAni set up the scene beautifully with a drawing of the bow in the moonlit night and a loosing of the arrow that hits the target. These type of scenes have become a KyoAni trademark calling card.
