Silly and implausible yes, but also very characteristic of children's stories. Yukari has gone "out of the frying pan, into the fire" - she's survived the dangers of re-entry, only to face the "dangers" of being embarrassed in front of her classmates and being scolded by the mean old principal. In some ways, those are
bigger dangers to a kid than burning up in the atmosphere would be.
