Aside from Noitamina and maybe an NTV show or two, you can't take much stock in ratings for anything that comes on after dinner time. It's the DVD and goods sales that really make it for those series. Generally speaking only people who are really watching it were hard core interested fans from the start.
Still surprised by Mazinger's timeslot, at around 11:30, terribly unusual for anime.
