It could happen because Itachi fought Sasuke and pretended to try and kill him and Sasuke convinced Oro he was dedicated to him but betrayed him later on, so it wouldn't be suprising if he fought Naruto to give Madara a sense of trust for Sasuke only for Sasuke to betray him later on
