Actually, he went to a number of Black Knights about the situation beforehand, as he admitted himself. Kallen knew, C.C. knew... the only one he kept it a secret from was Zero. And since he was hoping to get information about Zero from her, I'd say that's a
pretty good reason to keep her a secret from Zero.
