People dying means jack shit, every mecha in existence has people dying and loads of them. Gundam has it in streams even the ones aimed at children. It's not a very mature show and unless it starts taking an extremely drastic turn it probably won't become particularily mature though it may become standard mecha maturity.
The very shows premise is about separating boys from girls for whatever reason and them combining to become "stronger" with some cock blocking about forbidden love. Clearly the fountain of maturity. It's like they combined standard shounen mecha with some Shoujo and this is what they got.
