Yeah, I agree there.
Its fanservice ecchi and the characters are bland with childhood friends rivals or just plain annoying ones like that spirit.

I dropped the series long time ago, so I wonder if the series improved after that

Oreimo is just a tease, is that very fact that hooks the viewers to keep reading and watching even if they never get what they expect.
