In that way you can't say that the depiction is WRONG, because you don't have Ryűkishi sitting next to you saying 'That's not what I intended...'. Just because it is not what you/or however many other fans saw inside your head(s), doesn't prove it wrong instantly.

That's exactly what I said. The thing I was disagreeing was basically the "it was intended like this". However, what I mentioned was Battler didn't felt that way, which means it "isn't intended like this" (thus why I didn't used facts or my own interpretation in my answer), yet it doesn't mean KJ is wrong to think it is funny.
Hence, I have no issue that it is up to someone to consider how the mood is, given a certain context, but I don't think a "working as intended" can be claimed here.
All is left afterwards is if people agree with the vision of the animators regarding this, which is a mixed bag as you can see.
Anyway, after watching a proper raw, my blunt reactions would be:
Spoiler for reactions:
-George's outburst would have been perfect... without that "boob dive". No, I'm not fan of innuendoes and don't have a quick mind on these, but they really give a certain attention to that *sigh*.
-I have no idea why they made everyone back to the parlor: it disrupt the possible time needed for the culprit to be at the boiler room. And it makes the whereabouts of the remaining 10 uncertain (especially Genji). I will agree that it is borderline nitpicking, however, in a detective mystery story, the whereabouts of characters is extremely important, so any change can make things super awkward on the long run.
-Aside of Maria's face, I REALLY doubt Battler wanted to have fun here, so... why the cartoon-ish bump when he hits Maria? It looked like a tukkomi. (and Battler was sure shown on the other way around).
-They finally bring out someone else than Battler wondering about Maria's odd behaviour
-Like I explained before, they changed Kumasawa's whereabouts: this detail has some relevance later on, but since they basically cut that too...
-As much as I think Kobayashi Yuu was way too feminine here (can't be helped here), she did convey well Kanon's feelings. As said before, the SFX of the stake and laughter weren't expected, good points (it didndn't sound out of place, but it will if they use the laughter with Ohara)
-Everyone in the boiler room was utterly downplayed: again, it is all about a "linear chain of reactions". Jessica is rushing to kanon, NO reaction (all are like dumb pillars), then battler use his flashlight.
Again, another big letdown for Battler (and Natsuhi) Characterization since they cut the chase a lot (with a weird transition after Battler's "shit!"). It is not as bad as the first twilight, mind you but... well.
-They introduced Jessica's asthma... except not even explained. Actually, as mentioned by Rias, NO ONE helps her, even Nanjo is just patting her back, which is NOT what you do during an asthma fit (unless you want the person to choke and turn blue, but heh). and as stated by someone else, everyone talking while Jessica is coughing just has a big incompatilibity feeling.
-Why didn't they use Maria's explanations about the scorpion circle to link it with natsuhi's charm? I mean everyone can hear what Maria says anyway.
-digest and good summary about Beatrice and Kinzo
-They messed up Maria location. As shown by the camera, the table is shown behind natsuhi with no letter, however, then, Maria points it out. Therefore, it rules her out, despite we should have no idea who put that either (except if it is another inconsistency).
-The last letter scene was horribly underplayed: only natsuhi and battler were reacting, Jessica and george were just as good as kinzo's book in the study: plain background.
It is normally a utter chaos, with a possible murderer among them, yet only Natsuhi starts a tantrum? color me unimpressed.
Same goes for Nanjo and the rest accepting without much problem to leave the study (Kumasawa's reaction was lacking, only Genji was... normal for obvious reason).
-As I said before, they simply crammed the last twilight for the hell of it.
Too many things they did wrong in my books , despite they cut even less than before, even putting stuff that were skipped previously (as you can see, I'm more annoyed by the execution rather than the content in fact). And with another reckless pace, to boot.
