Ahhh, that was a good episode to me. Not great, though (Since I hovered over the original topic and it showed the spoiler of the village dying >_<) but despite the emotional dampening it wasn't too bad. I loved Gluttony in it! Gnawing on the table, saying he's scared of Envy, pressing against windows, how can you not like that delightful doughball! And being told he should go on a diet... Haha.
Spoiler:
As for my opinion on why:
1) The man reminded her of Scar's brother. She didn't know why, but it was a comforting feeling, mayhaps making her more human. She knew she shouldn't, but felt for him anyway, even helping him. She didn't know who he reminded him of until the end. If you ask me, when she realized he was the one who 'made' her, she killed him.
And yes, Yebyosh's idea of a 'Portal' seems likely, as Lust was looking at the lump of meat that was her failed transmutation in her last flashback.
As for human transmutation, it can be done by the proto-stone. If you remember, the Crystal Alchemist and the two fake Elric's used the proto-stone to cure the red water disease. It can be used to merge birds together, or to turn birds into other things. Why not people? It also seems to be the heart of the Sins reconstructing themselves, to boot. But the alchemy seems to be temporary, as it wears off when the stone does. Everyone died if you ask me since the stone broke, and the repressed disease remanifested in everyone. That he almost succeeded originally without the stone is probably the potential that drew them to him.
Another thing, if anyone remembers Episode 2 where Envy released the birds into the air? If they were indeed revived with the proto-stone, it explains why they exploded. Another bird died thusly in this episode. Not exactly where they came from, though...
