The Adults’ way of life
I would like to start this post by saying that although I liked this episode’s title, I’m a bit fonder of the ones Arakawa-sensei used in the manga; I’m referring to “Our Two Heroines” and “The Two Philosophers”. And yes as those titles said two amazing heroines and two awesome philosophers shined brightly in this episode.
The interactions between Ed and Roy were funny
and showed us that Roy had gone back to his usual self.
I know what Roy said to Ed might have sounded as him being ungrateful to Ed and Scar, but that was just innocent teasing from Roy’s part. It was thanks to Ed, Scar and of course Riza that Roy’s heart wasn’t consumed by the flames of revenge and hate. And maybe I was the only one…but did anyone else think of Star Wars when Ed and Roy mentioned the dark side?
I thought it was very nice how the conversation between Ed and Roy contrasted with Scar and Riza’s conversation. It was about the same topic but the latter was more serious and deeper than the one between the two state alchemists. Riza thanking Scar for helping Roy was a touching moment, especially when we consider that those thanks were directed at someone who at the beginning of the story was an enemy and that in fact tried to kill Roy. One of the characters that have grown so much throughout the story is Scar, and for that reason he is one of my favorite ones.
“So the whole point of making so much noise with the tank firing was to shut out the noise of digging the hole to here with Alchemy?!” You got to love Izumi’s attitude when answering this question, at least I did.
I know the man who entered Bradley’s office only lasted for a few seconds in the episode but it is interesting to see how when power is involved people can become so disloyal, selfish and corrupt…however, to that man’s misfortune his ambition led him to a room where he met his death…and in…a not very nice way I might add *shivers at the thought of being eaten by one of those creepy white dolls*
It lasted a second but I thought it was very sweet how Alex protected his sister as soon as he heard Sloth saying
“kill the female general”. So sweet!!
Another cool moment for Alex was when given the chance to run away, he decided not to do it.
“I will not disgrace myself a second time”. This time Alex decided to stay not only to protect his honor, but also to protect his sister and his friends, he stayed to protect what was dear to him.
Entering with a bang, please welcome the coolest housewife in Amestris!!! Izumi Curtis!!!
Olivia and Alex’s expressions of shock at seeing Izumi shoulder throw Sloth so easily were priceless, just as priceless as the expressions they showed when Sig send Sloth flying across the room.
But yes, the Curtis’ strength and awesomeness is really shocking.
Alex and Sig displaying their muscle power was hilarious
but at the same time oh so manly.
But the best part was them teaming up against Sloth, poor Sloth didn’t stand a chance against those two. And the handshake at the end was the perfect way to finish the scene of their teamwork put into action.
Last episode was Envy; this episode was Sloth’s turn to die. It wasn’t as dramatic as the deaths of Lust, Gluttony and Envy…mmm… but maybe it was the best death for Sloth, the one that reflected him the best, since a dramatic death would have been too bothersome, much trouble or annoying as Sloth used to say. However, I will mention one thing that I was sad they omitted during the scene when Sloth was dying. Just before completely disintegrating and disappearing, Sloth smiles in the manga, but in the anime we don’t get to see his smile.
Regarding the scenes that follow Izumi mentioning that the Elric brothers are also in town fighting, I must say I prefer the ones in the manga. In the manga, Alex helps Olivia stand up, whereas in the anime she stands up on her own. In addition, Alex and Olivia’s words were better in the manga, at least IMHO.
Now the part that I liked so much better than in the manga was Father and Hohenheim’s reunion. Yay!!
They are the two strongest alchemists without a doubt!
It was interesting to see these two men who look identical, who both have souls/philosopher’s stones inside of them, but who are so different from each other. While the one got rid of his emotions and the things that made him human and saw them as unnecessary; the other embraced those emotions and those things that made him human and saw them as very necessary; in fact, he made very good use of those emotions as we will see in the next episode…
Buccaneer was awesome in this episode and seeing him blush after saving those girls was great!!
Just as great as seeing Izumi and Sig pwing those creepy dolls and Olivia clearly stating that she had no intention to occupy Bradley’s position in the country.
“I’ve returned gentlemen.” What better way to end this episode that with the return of the king to his castle! Bradley looked so incredibly cool walking towards his castle with a gaze full of wrath.
Two heroines + Two very muscular men + two philosophers + one king = one super cool episode!!
