China's growth and currently activities are not sustainable for the next 30-40 years. Their trade imbalances will either be corrected or will seriously undermine the countries they currently trade with, both of which will result in slowed growth and potential loss of jobs (leading to civil unrest). They're already facing some environmental problems that are set to grow massively unless they begin to regulate their activity (either decreases economic output, or utilizes wealth to safeguard the environment - both of us cut into the nation's earnings).
I don't foresee China taking over the USA's position any time soon - not without some major changes.
