I do have several (male) friends who watch and enjoy anime, though at varying levels. A couple are only interested in mainstream action (like Naruto or Bleach), probably because they don't want the social "stigma" that comes with anime. A couple are honest fans of anime and will watch a lot of things. Only one is willing to watch and discuss virtually anything, even if they're not "guy" shows. I also know girls who watch anime, but they tend to be the fangirl "OMG like, she is so kawaii ~ desudesudesu" type, so I can't say there is a lot of discussion to be had between us.

Admittedly, a lot of my friends had the stereotypical idea that anime was "a kiddie thing." Then I showed them the first episode to Elfen Lied, and the juicier snippets of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Though many of them still don't watch anime, they now all at least accept my hobby as a mature form of entertainment
