...So the Edelweiss' technical designation is M-71? That's... either cockiness on Theimer's part (Like naming a tank in 1920 the M1942!), thinking that the Edelweiss would be able to stand toe-to-toe with the M60 Patton and T-62 (or counterparts), or a reference to 1871.
Or it's the main gun's designation.
