I would say fanatical ideology, but those bridge automatons continued to monitor their consoles even Ambat (and its systems) was disintegrating around them.
Maybe it's a symptom of the Mars disease: be oblivious to anything but. Do this until told (by Sir Ezcelcant) otherwise.
