I have thought about a few ideas involving Touma and Yuriko. Such as an alternate ending in volume 3 where Touma learns her true reasons for going along with the experiment.

Something like, if she refuses, the experiment will go on no matter what she does since the administration is backing it up, and her agreeing to it means that it would keep the deaths at the minimum 20000, so she has to keep up a facade to try and scare the SISTERs away as a last resort.
You could additionally delve into her dark past and reveal it somehow, preferably not entirely by her telling him because that would make it seem like she's trying make herself look sympathetic. If you want to make her suffer even more then throw in an abuse or rape factor that was triggered by a scientist who started at an early age when she didn't have any powers or when they were a low level and she couldn't fight back. This broke her down psychologically and lets him bypass her powers and break her whenever he wants because she truly believes she deserves it.
However, the abuse/rape angle is thrown in way too much in fanfiction as an element used for cheap sympathy and an excuse for character development. Use sparingly, if at all.
Touma preaches first and says or does something which triggers a rampage where she proceeds to beat him nearly to death because she knows he doesn't understand. Either Touma loses and she lets him live and then he somehow breaks into a major institute carrying out the researchto try to stop it, finds out about her dark past (if you want to use the abuse/rape thing then have Touma witness her abuse in the middle of it as a punishment for letting a witness go), and then KO's all the scientists out of shock and rage, OR Touma then proceeds to defeat her there to BREAK HER ILLUSION and stop the experiment. Both would trigger a flag. However, the "Touma saves Girl X and Girl X proceeds to fall in love with Touma" thing is getting SO old, plus he doesn't really seem to have any feelings for the girls he save...
Or, you could go as close to the original with Touma just beating her and her developing the same relationship with Last Order, but have her develop a crush over time on "that one guy who managed, against all odds, to defeat me and change my life forever".
Just throwing these out there if you want to use a few elements from it. I did go overboard with writing a bit. These really aren't that good though. |
Well...Yuriko's relationship with Last order doesn't really have to change, seeing as how I always saw Accelerator-Last order relationship as a sibling relationship. So yea, the dark past sounds pretty good and I guess Yuriko would become the big sis to LO.
I guess we really have no need to make Yuriko become a cripple, as that kind of tarnish her image. We could have her develop an inferiority complex after the defeat against Touma and somehow get the two together as she faces her past.
Although a crack idea could be that since Yuriko's apartment is trashed (except her girl stuff lol). She could be assigned to a dorm, although unfortunately for her and Touma's luck, she is relocated to Touma's dorm (and both will have to feed the glutton) xD
