My only question at present is Niimi Kaoru's fate. We are nearing the end of the series and while this isn't the Comet Empire arc, Yamato does have a reputation for getting people killed near the end.

Before the Brig Block of the Yamato is breeched, Niimi is asked to assist Analyzer to stop the detonation of the converted Asteroid Mining Drill, while XO Sanada is pre-occupied with the Boatswain in the Third Bridge, trying to get Inertial Systems and the Wave Motion Shields back online — the first Garmillas attack on the Yamato in the Rainbow Cluster knocked out their radar, sensors, and their shield generator.

So, she lives. After the battle, she relieves herself back into custody — but Okita tells her, "That's not your place."
