Aion wants total freedom, and he thinks that there's a way for him to becom God... but in the end it seems he's also played by God...

I also have a not-well-accepted theory that Aion is God or God's agent. I think in one episode it mentioned that Pandemonium/Hell is between Heaven and Earth, so the light of God cannot reach Earth but stopped at Hell. Aion said he wanted to switch Heaven and Hell, let Heaven become Hell and let Hell fill with light. If you think about it, that could be beneficial to God/forces of Heaven. If Heaven and Hell switch position, that means Heaven is between Hell and Earth, so the darkness of Hell won't be able to reach Earth while the light of Heaven can shine on both Hell and Earth...
