All personal opinion. In Japan (where it matters), Athrun has been beating Kira in just about every popularity poll since Destiny started airing. And there are people who like Shinn since he's usually third after Athrun and Kira. And that's even though the show hasn't done much with Shinn yet. So nope, Kira isn't the messiah that you made him out to be.
