After a whole year I decided to write something again. This time a bit longer.
Spoiler:
It’s November XX.
The reason why Nadeko’s using XX is because I don’t know what day of the month it is.
Actually Nadeko’s not really sure if it’s November anymore either.
Time feels particularly slow when you have nothing to do but before you know it time flies by.
The leaves are almost all fallen but a couple is still holding on.
Whenever Nadeko look at them she feel like she need to tell them to hang on as it feels like if they all fall off it’ll be the end of something.
Nadeko doesn’t know what that something is but she just feels like she’ll be sad when it comes.
But Nadeko really shouldn’t feel like that. Nadeko is a big girl now so she can’t just stand by and think that time will stop for her.
That’s right, Nadeko is no longer the same person as she was at the beginning of this month. She’s something more than that now. Actually saying that Nadeko is not the same “person” anymore is an understatement. Nadeko is now the god of the Northern White Snake Shrine.
A being that is beyond that of a human.
So with that being said Nadeko is no longer a “person.”
Nadeko has been the god of this shrine for only a short while so she still can’t fully comprehend the weight of it all.
Gods are immortal so Nadeko is gonna have a long future ahead of her.
However Nadeko isn’t really the type to look forward to anything.
It’s too much of a hassle. Nadeko cares a lot more about what is happening now. Nadeko can’t imagine what Nadeko is gonna be like a year from now.
The truth holds the same for Nadeko of the past too.
She certainly couldn’t have imagine that she’ll be cursed, or meet Koyomi-oniichan again, or even becoming a god.
Life is full of uncertainly which is why it’s so troublesome.
Why can’t things just stay the same?
“Are you sure that’s what you really believe in?”
A voice spoke to me as Nadeko was deep in thought.
A voice that came from my right wrist.
Or at least it seems like it came from my right wrist.
The white snake that is wrapped around my wrist spoke to me.
The white snake that I call Kuchinawa-san.
“Nadeko-chan I don’t fully believe that’s what you truly believe in.”
“Kuchinawa-san what are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about the fact that you want things to stay the way they are and everything goes on unchanging.”
“What’s wrong with thinking that? If something isn’t broken than don’t fix it.”
“If the world worked that way then humans would still be living in caves.”
“Actually scratch that, if everything remained unchanged then the world itself wouldn’t exist due to it never being created in the first place.”
“Advances in knowledge turns the world into a better place, I’m sure you’ll agree with that wouldn’t you, Nadeko-chan?”
“Hmm----“
Kuchinawa-san sure got me cornered, or rather Nadeko got Nadeko cornered.
That’s because Kuchinawa-san doesn’t exist.
He is merely a fragment of Nadeko’s imagination.
An Imaginary friend so to speak.
I created him before and after a series of events that lead up to my ascension to becoming a god.
He was once a part of my delusions, but nowadays he’s the only thing I speak to.
“Okay how about this then, I’ll accept that change in general isn’t that bad, it’s just the changes that happen around Nadeko that is bad?”
The changes that affect Nadeko.
If things had just remained the way they were it would have been okay-
“Wrong again Nadeko-chan, you are still holding back.”
“You don’t actually hate changes that happen around you, for example, you enjoyed being turned into a god right?”
“If it wasn’t for that change you wouldn’t be here right now.”
“I know you Nadeko-chan, there is more to it then you are letting on. Just say it, just admit what it is that you really hate.”
Sighhhhhh.
There really is no fooling him, it’s impossible to fool someone when the other person is essentially you.
Nadeko is forced to admit the truth. Force to admit what is really going on in my mind.
“Nadeko hates changes that don’t benefit her.”
I really didn’t want to say it out load. It makes Nadeko sound super selfish.
But it’s the truth. Everything Nadeko has ever done it’s for her own personal gain.
Whether it’s in the past, present or future.
The future.
The future where Nadeko kills Koyomi-oniichan.
The truth is there is something Nadeko is looking forward to in the future. When March comes around it’ll be when Japanese high-schoolers graduate. When that time comes, Nadeko will be able to kill Koyomi-oniichan.
In fact Nadeko is super anxious about it. Nadeko simply can’t wait for the day to come.
But Nadeko needs to restrain herself. She promised that she’ll wait. As a god she was asked to spare Koyomi-oniichan’s life until graduation came and Nadeko is gonna keep that promise.
However life at the shrine really isn’t making it easy.
Nadeko had a lot of expectations but none of it came true.
Nadeko thought that since the shrine was being rebuilt that more people will come and pray to her.
But other than the construction workers no one has came.
Nadeko even tried to approach the workers but they run away instantly.
Nadeko feels really unappreciated.
What do other gods do when they don’t have followers?
From all the mangas that Nadeko has read the solution is always that a human comes along and for whatever reason the god becomes the human’s companion. The god then meets all sorts of people and they inadvertently become her followers.
But that won’t work for Nadeko would it?
Life isn’t a manga and one can’t expect it to.
Besides Nadeko is aiming to murder someone so she’ll probably wouldn’t be fit to be the female heroine of a romantic-comedy where the god ends up becoming a part of the main character’s harem.
Nadeko certainly doesn’t look the part either. Right now Nadeko has over a hundred thousand snakes at her command and is attached to her head.
She looks just like a monster.
Or maybe she really is one.
Well maybe there is one thing Nadeko has to her advantage. She’s cute. If there is one thing people could agree on it is that Nadeko is cute. It’s the only thing Nadeko has going for her. The only thing.
With nothing to do and no one to talk to Nadeko has been wandering around the shrine for the past month.
Just waiting.
Patiently waiting for March to come around.
“Nadeko can’t wait anymore!”
“This is so annoying, there is nothing to do except looking at open space.”
“Nadeko-chan if there is someone to blame for your current predicament , it is you.”
“You were the one who promised you would wait.”
“Nadeko knows that and that is why it is so much more frustrating.”
“Nadeko needs more excitement now.”
It was at this moment that Nadeko decided. If excitement wasn’t gonna come to her, she’ll come to it.
This is only a part of a longer story.
A bit of context, this story assumes that Koi doesn't happen meaning any information given during Koi and after doesn't count.
Seeing as this story talks about Nadeko and her life as a god it will contain spoilers for the current anime arc. If you don't want to be spoiled then avoid like the plague.
Anyways enjoy and please go easy on me.
