The plane is still moving forward at like 400mph. If you don't splat on the fuselage or get sucked into the intake, you get to slam into the water at terminal (literally in this case) velocity.
As for survival, Natalie would go for maximum survival rate which is to try to land the plane and let the ghouls get out. Kiritsugu couldn't allow that.
