Hi, I just finished reading the 1st chapter of Umineko yesterday. Since most of my friends haven't read the VN, allow me to share I what I thought about the mystery
Spoiler for Chaos Theory:
I still don't get most of what really happened so if I am pathetically wrong, I beg for forgiveness.
Lets begin with the person who handed the letter to Maria. My only guess so far is that Maria may have called one of the 18 as Beatrice. It didn't have to be cosplay because they did say that Beatrice has no form.
In the first twilight where 6 person where killed, only Krauss and Shannon face was the one revealing. Unless the next chapter says otherwise, only Krauss and Shannon are the only ones amongst the 6 who genuinely believe in the Witch. So the question is where they spared from total destruction cause they believe in it? Krauss and Shannon was probably killed from the start; Krauss being killed by the remaining 4 and killed Shannon as well who witness the murder. Originally, the 4 or with another few or one extra person decided to hide the body in the warehouse but I think at this point an argument went out and a fight broke out. In the end, the remaining 4 were killed instead. The killer/s afraid of what happen decided to use the Witch as the reason to cover up the motive of their death
Lets move on from here, Eva and Hideyoshi who are the ones who followed Kanon and Genji to find out about the warehouse. This actually tells me that Eva and Hideyoshi may have something to do with the 6 but I have no solid reasoning for now. The missing of Kinzo might be Genji doing because he was the only one who went out to find out if the radio works.
The second twilight which saw the undoing of Eva and Hideyoshi. We were made to believe that they were killed by those Icepick. Because they were only dead moments ago before their bodies were found out, they may have been poisoned to death too because poison marks don't show after hours later. Moreover, Eva who is good at martial arts, it would be difficult to deal a striking damage on her head without getting out of harm. It was only after they were dead, the killer placed the icepick on their forehead; making it look like the cause of death.
Now the only problem is after all that killing, how did the killer escape with the magic circle on the door? I was thinking what if the killer was in the room and just blended in went the rest came? Also, suspicion would be placed on Genji cause if the story of Kanon and Kumasawa was right, Genji would have been able to help the murderer.
After that the showdown of Kanon and the killer with "Kinzo found". This part would have shown us that there is an extra person(or more) other than the 18. Likewise all but Kumasawa have a strong alibi when the murder occurred. Perhaps one of the 6 was really alive....Also, the body of Kinzo may not be Kinzo after all as it might be one of the original 6
Before we move to the quarrel part, I have always suspected Nanjo may have been somehow giving the wrong diagnosis purposely or not. He did said that he weren't an expert in forensic and any reading of the time of death may have been flawed. The quarrel part may tell us that Natsuhi may be the culprit too as she "claimed" that she did not the "see" the letter earlier.
The final slaughter. At this point it is very clear that someone else other than the survivors were involved. Like I mentioned earlier, Maria may have describe someone of the 18 as Beatrice. Naturally, she would describe someone as Beatrice. And perhaps because that, that person may have thought himself/herself as Beatrice. And as for Natsuhi's death, she would not have killed herself due to the nature of the gun. I think it would be hard to explain because only one shot was fired and when the rest picked up the gun, he has to rearm it.
In conclusion to this confusing theory, you may notice that Krauss and Shannon were not totally face dismembered in the earlier murder and the only Eva, Hideyoshi and Kannon has their face spared. I think that they may have been the same killer for the 6, "Kinzo" & Kanon, and the remaining 3 servant and doctor. But I think the killer for Eva and Hideyoshi is different. The important part of this mystery seems to link to Nanjo as if his statement is wrong, all the killing so far would have been only at night. The killer does not seems to kill at morning and because he/she thinks that he/her self as Beatrice, he/she would have avoided the charms instinctively.
That's all of my thought. Please discuss with me so that I can have a different picture of the mystery before I move to chapter 2
