Anime News Network, they said it takes place in the next century, but that's all I understand, considering that I haven't read the comic or seen the live-action version of it. All we know is that they replaced the main character with a Japanese counterpart, and that the anime takes place in Japan. And to be honest, I don't even know what time period the original story took place myself. Has anybody read the original comics to find that out?
