No, no... I'm not saying you were violating a rule - just to be sure and read the rules before getting too carried away
Warez are definitely against the rules, but simply talking about modding/hacking or warez is more ambiguous and I'd defer to the mods on that one. You might PM a mod and see what they think.
I happen to agree with you on the principles of modding and owning what you've purchased (e.g. if its a license and not a product, they should always replace the physical media for free like *real* software companies do
).
