Actually, didn't he say he would "do" her? I think he's afraid that his love is purely physical, and doesn't understand romance. Whereas she thinks her feelings are only romantic, and not physical. But in fact they both have both kinds of feelings. That's how I see it, anyway -- although it's also reasonable to think his greatest desire is for friendship. In any case, they are charmingly and instructively unprepared to deal with these new feelings, whatever they are.
It's kind of ironic that we have two new shows in which the hero(ine) is with a character of the opposite sex who is an impenetrable and unpredictable force of nature: this show and
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo.
