A long time ago in an apartment building far, far away, I once posted an image poking a little humor at how well a Magic: the Gathering card seemed to fit Kyubey's MO, and it sparked a mild conversation about how Kyubey himself would work as a card. Certain things about Kyubey had to be included: his lack of any real allegiance, his technical immortality, the contracts(of course)... I think I came up with something perfect.
Spoiler for Cardbey:
Okay, for those actually curious as to how this card would even work, it's simple.
Persist says that if Kyubey dies without a -1/-1 counter, he comes back from the grave with one. Undying is the same with +1/+1 counters. If a card would somehow have both, you choose which one resolves first and don't bother with the second(as it's already back). Indestructible probably would've been a more elegant solution, but I think this fits Kyubey's particular form of immortality better... even if he's a 1/3 half the time.
As for the activated ability, vanishing states the following: "At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a time counter from this permanent. When the last is removed, sacrifice it." In other words, this eventually results in the creature in question dying, which seemed like the best way to represent how things work post-Madoka. With the boost, the +2/+2 seemed like an obvious choice for the increase in strength and endurance. The choice between flying and first strike is simple. Most weapons in Madoka Magica have obvious long-range attributes, which is generally represented by either first strike or reach. Reach is primarily a defensive ability, so I simply went for first strike. As for flying... well, I'd say the increased agility would be close enough to flying as far as mechanics are concerned. Plus any Puella Magi would technically be "wizards" by MtG creature type, and those have an unusual tendency of being able to fly in this game. Oh, and naturally the "not named Kyubey" clause is because letting Kyubey boost himself is both broken and completely missing the point.
As for why he's not a Legendary Creature... it's a race, not an individual.
Finally... he's a Horror because I needed some sort of creature type and he doesn't really look like an Eldrazi. Even if the clear border and colorlessness of the card would imply he is one.
