I as kind of expecting a cut off about when they go to the woodmans house, Boer or something (been a decade since I read the book) or just when they find elves in mirkwood, which is after the spiders, but before the river trip. Both scenes could be used for breaks. That would leave Dale, lonely mountain and Smaug, five armies and the return home.
