I don't know, is it necessarily bad and unrealistic writing that they don't call Rei out on her hypocrisy? Some people are just generous and sanctimonious that way, rarely going the 'An eye for an eye' route. There's plenty of people in real life that are too good for their
own good, so it's not anything that stretches my suspension of disbelief.
