I'm guessing something more on the lines of the daughter seeing her father being defeated/killed/dying from his disease before Kensei and having a shock that caused her to loose her unborn child and either enter a coma or die, leaving Tanaka to blame all on Kensei and enter a fragile mind state with all his talking to the phone and whatnot.
