Well, that's the main problem with Gundam. Since tradisionalism aka the same old formula works be it flashy Gundams with cool characters or gritty realistic Gundams with a dark war story, both have constantly sold itself well with the targetted community despite repitition be it the Gundam franchise or something outside Gundam.
And it probably puts Sunrise in a pinch to do some
different. G Gundam was long ago, and it'd probably got some slack being the first ever AU series.
