Wilhelm Grimm's Magical Girls 40 - What Exactly Happened Offscreen?: BURNING
:
So as the show enters endgame, it appears to be working in a bookends sort of fashion. The girls getting to do things on their own and show how far they've come is becoming a major point. Miyuki used her love of fairy tales last week for an attack beyond normal strength, and now it's Akane's turn. The Volleyball Akanbe (Wolfy version) was kind of reused, but the fight sequence it provided was totally worth the price of admission. Akane WAILED on him, and the firestorm surrounding her body was animated beautifully. I'd compare it to Yayoi in episode 19, but it still lacks quite the emotional impact of that scene. That the thing that got Akane standing up was Wolfy saying he was going after Miyuki means +1 for MiyuAka fans.
Other good things about this episode include Brian playing an indirect role in it - glad to see he hasn't been forgotten. Though his letter's first line was "Thank you for everything you did
to
me while I was in Japan." That's very... Freudian. Akane must've made his blood hot. Also, Joker and Wolfy's red eyes were kinda creepy, by the time slot's standards. The show only has ~10 episodes left anyway, so Joker's aware this is their last chance.
The Akane fight sequence this week was gorgeous, but next week is a story about Yayoi and how she came to love superheroes and drawing. What I'm saying is - can it be next week already?
