Yeah, I think you hit the nail there, obviously this show is primarily targeted to otaku and thus the 'quality any otaku can easily acquire' is intentional for obvious reasons. Really, with all the complaints that most haremettes are mostly cookie cutter of the usual archetype (token tsundere, token loli, etc), it's the male lead that's usually similar with each other. Maybe a small change of background and interest depending on setting, but mostly they're just your average everydude who won the heart of the girls by being caring and kind to them, but is very dense. Only one in recent memory that's quite different from the mold is Sai Akuto or Keima Katsuragi, the rest are quite similar...
