There's also that whole thing about projecting one's experiences unto others, be they fictional characters or real people. I, for one, didn't get the whole girl-love thing (in any more significant level than that of true friendship) and I don't feel particularly inclined to agree with such an assessment, given what the anime staff deigned relevant to show us (not to mention the light novels, in which the character's feelings are somewhat more explicit).
