Characters words are not always the best way to see their feelings. Like ask Shana is she likes Yuuji and she will say she doesn't, though it is obvious that she does.
Sometimes characters like to deny or are not aware about the feelings they have... So judging just based on Ryuuji's words is bit silly...specially considering that he is definitely physically attracted to her.
