No they didn't. All they heard about Yami was they wanted to "correct the world through real martial arts." They heard nothing about killing. Yami was an organization of martial artists, and they wanted to join so that they could fight more. They weren't presented with the prospect of killing someone until the deathmatch was forced upon them.
