Maybe the act of entering the Sword of A by Marianne and later C.C. and Suzy it could have reopened the pathway back. I mean Charles seemed like he had given up on starting Ragnarok (Since he wouldn't be able to leave again) until Marianne arrived. So once she showed up he probably knew he could leave again and resumed his plan.
