In regards to what was revealed in episode 9.
Spoiler for ...:
Thinking about this from a thermodynamics standpoint. I wonder if magical girls create their own closed system once they form. As witches, we see that they create their own closed system. Their transformation into witches is what creates the convertible energy that Kyuubey then uses (it seems) to decrease the entropy of the universe - he's a machine that puts work into removing disorder of the universe (and I guess placing that disorder into the witches closed system?). Thinking of him like an air conditioner that "cools off" the environment (universe) is kind of amusing.
And I wonder how Madoka's power comes into play. Does she have the power to completely rewrite physics? Is it her wish that will save everyone? Or is the fact that she becomes a witch is what saves the universe? There are two ways I could see this happen:
1. Her power is so great that she can take in a lot of the entropy of the universe into her closed system (more than any other magical girl). Sadly, this is only a temporary solution, because, as the 2nd Law states, entropy is always increasing or constant. So magical girls will have to continue to be harvested. But, she has reduced a large amount of it.
2. The world that a witch creates completely defies physics, and by swallowing the universe into her witch's world, the universe therefore doesn't even need to worry about thermodynamics and the like.
And I completely yoinked that one from my nether regions.
Yay, science. I'm putting too much thought into this.

How do you think we got those medicines? Do you understand what kind of testing needs to be done to determine the safety of these medicines? I'm in the medical device industry, and I can tell you now that it is not solely
in vitro. Progress is always built upon sacrifices. To get to the point where we can genetically engineer crops or use clean energy, we've had to go through centuries of development. It's been a long experience of trial-and-error.
