Kakifly backing away himself? I always have the feeling he wanted to end it just nice at the 4th book and not until the university chapters that's all. It was the publishers idea to continue and end it like this.
But seriously, that 'ending'? I refuse to admit it. I'll stick to my fanfics for happier K-ON endings.
