Switches sometimes. Both 1st and 3rd were used at some point (switches pretty often actually).

You don't really find out much about Izaya's combat abilities beyond what was already shown. As for Shizuo, volume 2 is really just about him and Anri. Volume 7 is focused on his past, so there are mention of both him and Izaya there (I have not read this before though, only what other readers told me; I might've remembered incorrectly).
