I don't think it's so much a poke at homosexuals as it is a poke at the genre BL itself.
However, I think it was the opening that sparked the reactions, which is why I think sticking to actual lines was better, as seen right after.
As for me, I'll probably watch right after I get the excitement of waiting for the actual release out of my system. I've always thought it's just not good timing.
